First Name: Kaeldris
Last Name: Dantalion
Nickname(s): Kael
Race: Castanic Nobility
Sex/Gender: Male
Age: 19
Class: Slayer
Appearance:
The first thing you may notice about Kael is his scarlet skin, tousled golden hair and easy smile. Like silk laid across a razor-edged blade, they throw a veil of warmth over a deep undercurrent of danger. The next thing you may notice is his eye patch. His hair usually drapes rebelliously across one side of his face, but it serves to conceal the patch laid across his left eye, as if hiding it from notice.
Like most castanics, he is lithe but powerfully built, his toned muscles rippling artfully across his short frame. His red skin, largely unblemished by battle, is punctuated here and there by tattoos common among his people. The most notable of these is a design on his bicep which looks like a series of interconnected keys.
His mode of dress is revealing and far from formal, and his hair always looks unruly. Yet he is surprisingly clean and well-groomed. Fresh, clean and unsullied by the grime of the mundane world. From his smooth skin, to his artfully insolent hair, to his straight white and slightly pointed teeth, he can be seen as every fraction a cavalier and perhaps even a dandy.
But always underneath that, there is something poised to strike. Challenging. Wild. Hungry. A beast that need only be unchained. A spark waiting for fuel.
Personality:
Kaeldris' manner is nonchalant, sometimes to the point of outright disinterest. When he speaks, this shows in his crooning, devil-may-care tone. And from the occasional wisecrack, he tends to remain aloof. However, when his interest is sparked, his demeanor can quickly gain warmth and passion, kindling into a range of attitudes ranging from burning eagerness, to swift fury, to salacious passion.
His approach to his work with the Society of Light is lackadaisical, to put it charitably. His clerical work is sloppy and his work ethic questionable. When challenged on it, he will usually downplay the importance of any mishaps or delays. With his older and wiser guildmates, he is constantly riding the line of outright disobedience.
Though he can at times display flashes of brilliance, he is frustratingly evasive about applying his mind to tasks. Playing dumb is a common tactic for him, and he almost wears his feigned ignorance like a badge of honour. This understandably doesn't go down well with many other members of the Society who are all too willing to label him an airhead or even a dullard.
Though he can be immature at times, his presence is undeniable, calm and unfazed. He carries himself with his own brand of dignity; One forged of blood and upbringing. On the other hand, at times his youthful energy combines with his people's renowned impetuousness into a volatile cocktail of manic activity. Full-blown episodes of action without thought. It is at times like this that his potential truly shines through, showing his fierce will and chilling intellect. Why he chooses to devalue his own talents most of the time is a mystery.
Backstory:
Kael will never mention his family origins, and avoids even using his last name wherever possible. Nor does he talk about past in the dark city of Castanica. In that respect, he is a closed book to most of his colleagues.
For those with access to his guild records, it is known that his parents are wealthy nobles, and have sent their son to the Society of Light in an effort to put his mind to use. The success of this move has been arguable.
The Dantalion family are known as highly skilled and influential merchants. But their trade is not in commodities or crafted goods, but knowledge. His father, Sarganis Dantalion, is a dealer in rare and obscure books and scrolls, some of which would be forbidden or outright illegal anywhere outside of Castanica. It is rumoured that his mother, Kyndria Dantalion, deals in the even more dangerous trade of information itself.
From his early teen years, Kael displayed little interest in his family's business. As he grew, he instead pursued dangerous thrills and hedonistic pleasures. The only passion that truly elicited his dedication was music. He has become expert at the Zolitar, a five-stringed instrument traditional to the Castanic, though he plays it in a non-traditional style.
His family frown upon this hobby, deeming it un-proper for a young man of his station. But to Kael his music represents a freedom he never experienced in his gilded-cage upbringing -- A freedom of the mind that cannot be bought with gold. A freedom that he would kill for without regret.
Now he is trapped in the dichotomy between his two greatest passions: That for freedom from his family, and that for a life without responsibility.
Area(s) of Research: Archive keeper. He is trained in his family's trade of sourcing, identifying and valuing rare texts. Problem is his heart's not in it. He'd much rather be out in the wilds, acting as a bodyguard to his fellow scholars, and enjoying the freedom of travel and indulging in playful violence.
Other Skills: Aside from his impressive swordsmanship skills learned as a young noble and honed in the back-alleys of Castanica, Kael is a musical prodigy and with time and practice may become a true virtuoso.
Sexual Orientation: Ambiguous
Relationship Status: Single
MISC. Info: Kael doesn't talk about his eye patch. If pressed, he may mumble something about a hunting accident at his family estate, but will not elaborate. In actual fact, it may be that he has not even lost the eye. In the heat of battle it is sometimes possible to glimpse something emanating from behind the patch. A fiery and eldritch glow. Again, this is nothing he will ever speak of unless absolutely forced by circumstance. What circumstances that could be is unknown.
There is little more to say about Kaeldris, as his journey is only beginning. Though he is of debatable use to the Society now, in time he may grow to fulfil his potential.
Until then, his story remains unwritten.
